Weekend Report – Racing along with the Cape Race!

The major project underway at the moment is the completion of a roof covering and the restoration of the windows and doors to bring this passenger car to a state of restoration which allows us to store it outside.

Roof restoration

By last weekend, we completed major preparation work on the roof with much flashing work and patching and grinding towards completion. The very tricky tricky installation of a rubber membrane at  the corners of the car on the lower roof which has compound curves requiring carefully stretching of the membrane was tackled and the first cornet successfully completed as can be seen in the images below.

Window and door restoration

We have now cleaned  and masked 10 windows and given them a coat of exterior red paint. Eight other windows had top fitting strips installed and painted. The last major window, the second big one, for the solarium was glazed.

We completed stripping and sanding and painting of one of the access doors and cleaning up of the associated hardware.   The door is very heavy solid black walnut. The interior is being left in a varnished condition.
