.
Last Saturday, before we opened at our normal hour of high noon, we trained several more volunteers in the operation of our full size simulator in our General Electric U33C Diesel cab. The volunteers then took shifts in interacting with visitors in the afternoon and enjoyed themselves thoroughly.
.
We were especially thrilled to have two special visitors join us in the simulator on Saturday afternoon. Roy North is a former CN and VIA locomotive engineer who had over 43 years of experience when he retired 16 years ago. As is evident in the picture at the upper left, it was a thrill to see him grab the controls without any training from us of course and expertly drive the train while carefully signalling appropriately as he did so as well as explaining to us his tactics in engine control. A little later, Anton Liebermann also took the controls. Anton is a diesel and electric locomotive engineer from Germany who also had 15 years of experience running the last of the steam locomotives operating in Germany. At the above right, we see Anton obviously enjoying himself as another visitor with her two young sons looks on.
