TRM & The Severn Valley Railway Newsletter

The Severn Valley Railway was opened as a Heritage Railway in 1970 and is one of the most successful heritage railways in the U.K. It is almost entirely volunteer developed and operated.  Wikipedia describes the railway as follows:

“The Severn Valley Railway is a heritage railway in Shropshire and Worcestershire, England. The 16-mile (26 km) heritage line runs along the Severn Valley from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster, crossing the Shropshire/Worcestershire border, following the course of the River Severn for much of its route.

Train services are hauled predominantly by steam locomotives; however diesel traction is also sometimes used on designated days and during periods of high fire risk.

The railway is one of the most popular heritage railways in the country as well as being the sixth longest standard gauge heritage line in the United Kingdom. It hosts numerous special events throughout the year, including both steam and diesel galas.”

We mention the railway here because they featured our museum and miniature railway operation in their Autumn 2013 issue of their Newsletter. Two of our TRHA volunteers, Alan Bradshaw and Mike Salisbury are also members of the Severn Valley Railway Association.  They sent in a letter to the editor which was published in that issue.
