The Leviathan winters in the Age of Steam Roundhouse!
The Age of Steam Roundhouse project in Ohio is one of our favourite developments to report on. Last February, their website announced the following:
“Snuggling down for a long winter’s nap in the Age of Steam Roundhouse is 4-4-0 Leviathan, an operating replica of one of the first locomotives used on the Central Pacific line of the 1869 Transcontinental Railroad. Custom built by David Kloke of Illinois, the Leviathan has its own highway tractor-trailer rig to haul it around the U.S.A., and has been exhibited and fired-up for legions of Americans. We will drop one of its driving axles to do some bearing work in the Age of STteam back shop, and, come spring, she’ll awaken to a fire in her belly and steam in her cylinders for some test runs across the Ohio countryside before it heads out on its 2014 tour schedule. What a thrill it will be to see, hear and smell those wonderful sensations created by this red-and-gold leaf steam beauty.”
Two of their photos are shown here. The rest of their great photos can be viewed by clicking here. or more information about the Leviathan project and the 2014 tour schedule, click here.
