The Age of Steam Roundhouse: December 2013 Report
One of our favourite museums to report on here in the TRHA News is the Age of Steam Roundhouse in Ohio. The museum is not open to the public while it is under development but they do a great job of sharing their progress through the Internet.
They have just issued their first newsletter since April of 2013 – a December Report on their 2013 activities which makes fascinating reading. The focus in 2013 was on the installation of major repair and overhaul equipment. Here are some highlights from that report:
- Their CPR Pacific 4-6-2 #1293 was steamed a number of times in 2013 for privately chartered excursions.
- Installation of a Whiting 80-ton Drop Table to allow them to drop steam engine drivers into a pit and then move them to repair facilities.
- Installation of a Niles quartering machine (required to precisely align steam engine drivers being re-installed … click here to read more about quartering drivers!))
