Railway Nostalgia Weekend Event in St. Thomas this weekend!
This annual event is always worth the visit. Here is what they are saying about their event.
“Railway Nostalgia Weekend: June 23-24, 2012
The Elgin County Railway Museum and the CASO Station are collaborating to present St. Thomas Railway Nostalgia Weekend from 10am-4pm, June 23rd and 24th, 2012.
Re-live the great railway adventure at the Elgin County Railway Museum and discover local railway heritage with interpreters in vintage costumes as you tour locomotives, cabooses, and other pieces of railway rolling stock on display outdoors. Visitors can also explore railway artifact displays, the St. Thomas the Railway City exhibit, and historical demonstrations of telegraphy, jigger, gas car and a velocipede. There will be a train hobby show as well as model railway displays, children’s activities, and music. Author Ron Brown will also be at the event Sunday, June 24 from 12-3pm to sign his books including his latest, In Search of the Grand Trunk.
Additions to this year’s collaborative event will include classic car displays, guided tours of the CASO Station, a Strawberry Social (Saturday morning), displays of nostalgic toys and dolls, and Heritage of the Rails dramatic vignettes (Sunday). On the railway lands between the Elgin County Railway Museum and the CASO Station there will be antique farm machinery and equipment displays and a train-themed people mover for visitors to ride around the event!
The historic BX Tower on Moore Street will also be open for tours 10 am-4pm during Nostalgia Weekend.
Event admission is $7 per person, children under 12 years old are admitted free.”
St. Thomas, Ontario is about a two hour drive from downtown Toronto. Just south of the above event, you can also find the Port Stanley Terminal Railway, which operates on the tracks of the old London and Port Stanley Railway. It too is worth a visit while you are there.
