As described in an earlier TRHA News posting, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) took delivery of the first prototype of its new Flexity Outlook streetcars on September 25th, 2012. The new vehicles are built by Bombardier Transportation in Thunder Bay and several prototypes are currently being tested on the TTC’s streetcar system.
Meanwhile, streetcar No. 4400, the first of the new vehicles to have been delivered, made a special side trip to Ottawa for cold weather testing in the National ResearchCouncil’s environmental chamber The tests have presumably ended as the streetcar was spotted and photographed by Bob Baker in Canadian Pacific’s Smiths Falls freight yard on Thursday, October 10, on its way back to Bombardier in Thunder Bay.
Delivery of the first batch of production vehicles is expected to begin later this year and be completed in 2014. The first streetcar line to get the new vehicles will be the Spadina Route, sometime next fall. The TTC plans to replace all of its existing fleet of CLRVs and ALRVs with the new streetcars by 2018.
