Major metalwork restoration project on the Cape Race completed!

For the last six or seven weeks, I’ve been restoring the rusty hardware attached to the lower third of Cape Race.  Nine areas of concern were attacked: three ice boxes, two battery boxes, two vestibule traps and two stairs. With the use of three welders, two grinders, ten pounds of welding wire and a couple of hundred grinding disks, the work is now complete. To date it’s been about 240 hours of work.

This work should prevent serious rust for the next couple of decades. It’s going to be fantastic to see Cape Race painted once again and on display for everyone to see.

A comprehensive gallery showing the tear down process can be seen here.
