Historic images: #6218 in excursion service in 1968!

In previous TRHA News posting, we featured a series of images by David Howard of the CRHA’s Niagara Division of CNR #6060 in excursion service. We also featured the inaugural run of #6218 in excursion service in this TRHA News Posting.  The CNR in conjunction with local railway societies hosted many such steam powered excursions well after steam engines had disappeared in revenue service.

At the October meeting of this division, I won (in their monthly raffle) a mounted black and white image by David of #6218 in excursion service in 1968.  This image, shown above, shows railfans capturing the historic event as the excursion train roars by.

Unlike her preserved sister CNR Northerns in Ontario (#6213 in our museum and #6167 in Guelph) CNR #6218 today is in poor shape on static display in Fort Erie where a small group of enthusiasts, the “Friends of 6218“, are working hard to raise funds to cosmetically restore her.  To learn more about their efforts and to consider donating to their fund raising, click here.
