Field Report: The Komoka, Ontario Railway Museum – Part 1 of 2
Komoka Station and Museum |
I recently visited the Komoka Railway Museum which is just outside London, Ontario, Canada.
Part of the Museum is housed in the former Canadian National Railway station in Komoka, Ontario. In 1978, the building was moved to a location north of the CNR tracks and adjacent to the Komoka Community Centre. In the station and a nearby building, many railroad items are on display including telegraph keys, spike pullers, switch lanterns, steam gauges, a baggage sleigh and a three-wheel velocipede.
The nearby building was built to feature the most impressive artefact in their collection, an almost completely restored standard gauge Shay steam locomotive built in 1913 in Lima, Ohio. It originally worked as a logging locomotive in Algonquin Park for the Key Valley Railway.
On the museum property there is also a baggage car, a caboose, other railway related vehicles and a miniature railway which we will feature in our next TRHA News posting.
