Field report: Bill Kaufman’s Big Move! Part 1 of 2
What do you do with your simulator when you have to move!
Bill Kaufman (shown below in uniform as an engineer on the Adirondack Scenic Railway) recently faced a move of house and home from Odgensburg, New York to Alabama.
Bill developed the U33C simulator now featured in our Toronto Railway Museum over 18 years in his garage in Ogdensburg. Bill has made a number of visits to the U33C since then to help us further evolve it.
Now he was faced with the challenge of moving the components of his next project, a Dash-9 cab, to Alabama where he acquired a property with a nice big shop in back for this purpose. After loading up our simulator a few years ago, Bill knew what had to be done. In the images below, we see how he fully packed a large float with the biggest pieces for the trip and even squeezed in his son’s Jeep.
The last photo shows his old driveway protected by two fully operational crossing gates, a familiar sight on my visits to Bill over the past few years!!
