Field Trip: The Adobe Western Railway in Phoenix, Arizona – Part 2 of 2

Continuing the field trip to the Adobe Western Railroad in Phoenix, Arizona, we turn our attention to the trains that the Maricopa Live Steamers operate on their 14 miles of track. Like many clubs, their roster of locomotives has shifted to being exclusively live steam locomotives to a mix of live steam locomotives and more modern diesel locomotives.

Those who choose to build or buy model diesel locomotives do not spend the 1,00’s of hours required to build a steam locomotive.  So they turn their attention to building scale freight and passenger trains.  In these photos, we see some of the fine modelling work that results.  We even see that they have built working hopper cars to carry ballast to wherever it is needed on their vast railway.
