Field Report: “All Aboard!” with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra

Last Saturday afternoon, the Toronto Railway Museum was invited by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra to set up a display at Roy Thomson Hall for their show “All Aboard!”, a part of their Young People’s Concert series featuring the TSO along with the “Young Voices Toronto” choir performing railway themed music including music from Thomas the Tank Engine and The Polar Express.

The shows were well attended, and our display of two operating HO Scale trains, wood and tin toy trains, and a working caboose marker lamp along with the always growing Toronto Railway Museum Slide-show Presentation attracted the interest of many both young and old.  Amongst the crowd were a number of our regular young visitors, who the miniature railway crew from the summer (Bob included) would recognize and who are eager for the 2013 season to start.  We also met many who were still unaware of our existence and who will hopefully now come and visit the park, temporary Stall 17 Exhibition and ride the miniature railway.

VIA Rail was also in attendance as a presenting sponsor of the concert, giving out a prize of a trip for four in the Corridor and goodie bags to all the children in attendance, including everyone’s favourite card board cutout trains, F40’s and Renaissance Cars this time!!  Even the VIA Rail representatives got a kick out of our display and matching “uniforms” of engineers coveralls!!
