Age of Steam Roundhouse acquires locomotive and caboose!

One of our favourite railway developments is the spectacular incredible “Age of Steam Roundhouse” in Ohio.  Once again there is news to post from them.  They recently acquired the engine and caboose shown above.  Here is the recent history of this acquisition:

“After two decades of display at the Station Square complex in downtown Pittsburgh, during 1978 Fred W. Oakie, a retired executive with the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railway, donated this Porter 0-4-0T to the Borough of Sewickley, Pa. Nicknamed Tom Thumb, this tiny engine was enshrined outdoors in Riverside Park (as shown above) along with a 4-wheel bobber caboose and a small locomotive tender. The locomotive was constructed by H.K. Porter in Pittsburgh during April 1897 for the Carnegie Steel plant in Cochran, Pa. Later, it was transferred to U.S. Steel in Duquesne as that mill’s #727. It is believed that its small-but-mighty tender was constructed and added to the 0-4-0T during its duties in Duquesne.”
