Field Report: Roundhouse Park – June 25th, 2014 – Part 1 of 3

June 25th this year is one of our milestone days in this season as it marks the first day of our first full week of museum operations.  Our full staff of eight people are now operating the miniature railway and the museum 5 days a week until Labour Day weekend. I personally live in St. Catharines so my visit to the museum on this day was a field trip for me.

In this series of postings, I will bring everyone up to date on some of the “happenings” in Roundhouse Park as captured in the accompanying images:

  • As shown in the images below, our miniature railway is now operating five days a week.
  • A spare diesel engine block sits outside our miniature railway depot awaiting eventual rebuilding as a spare for the second engine in our full sized Whitcomb diesel switcher as only one of the engines now in the diesel itself has been rebuilt so far.
  • Steam Whistle Brewing’s production line is not air conditioned so on this very hot day, the roundhouse doors are open and cooling fans employed to catch a breeze
  • A bright yellow “maintenance of way” car has been borrowed from the Golden Horseshoe Live Steamers which is used to easily measure whether the track is level. After many years of great service, our tracks are now being leveled and adjusted to ensure continued safe operations.
